Base Camp in the Masai Mara invites guests to immerse themselves into Masai culture as they settle into a safari setting that offers both exceptional wildlife experiences and a chance to experience the rich cultural history of the region and its people.
The camp is set up amidst trees and surrounding bush along the Talek River, offering eco-friendly, luxury tented accommodation. Dining takes place in a spacious communal tent set up right next to the Talek River offering amazing views over the grassy plains. There is the option for a private dining experience on the camp’s viewing deck, giving guests the chance to sit in near silence, the sound of the bush and flowing waters accompanying their meal.
Located next to Base Camp is the Enjoolata Awareness Centre where Masai are on hand to share with and educate visitors on local culture and the history of the region. Guests can also experience nearby community initiatives such as the Masai Beading Centre where local talent is applauded and promoted. Talek town is a short walk from the Camp and here guests can enjoy a cultural visit, led by a local guide.
Located along the seasonal Talek River, a tributary of the Mara River, offering a premium spot for animal viewing and for the soothing sounds of the waters in front of the camp. A five hour drive or a 45 minute flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport into Olsekior Olkiombo airstrips, Base Camp is situated on prime game viewing land and across the river from the famous Masai Mara. Each luxury tent faces the Talek River and is set with a bushy parameter, immersing guests into a wildlife haven and offering views over the savannah.

King, double or twin beds sit in the center of the room with a comfortable deck from where the famous Masai Mara can be seen in the distance.
The generous sized en-suite bathroom comprises a bio-flush toilet and large shower, with both the indoor and outdoor showers solar-heated.
Families or friends traveling together have the luxury of a large tent with two separate sleeping areas connected with one shared bathroom, and a large balcony that allows guests their privacy or the option to spend time together.
One of the most popular activities at Base Camp is bird watching safaris, due to the surrounding flora and fauna flourishing notably due to the planting of trees, an answer to solving the deforestation issue. Sekenani River Camp lies in a forested region that sees the source of the Sekenani River flow with life. The Masai Mara’s Sekenani Gate is only a short four miles away from the camp. The environment is tranquil and the main tented area is open and pristine. The dining area is set under a high, reeded roof with canvas walls, and a small sitting area is located in the main tent with bonfires and seating available on the verandah. The surrounding bush is lush and creates a perfectly intimate setting for the 15 secluded luxury tents, separated from the main public tent by a thrilling suspension bridge.
Guests can cool off in the inviting swimming pool, set among grass and trees or rest between game activities in the privacy of their tents on a small deck offering views of the surrounding wilderness. Guests can enjoy a beverage of their choice after their game drive or dinner or choose to gather around a crackling fire where they can discuss the day’s adventure. For those guests looking for that perfect local souvenir, a little gift shop is on-site too.
The best times to visit Tanzania are December through March or June through October during the dry seasons, when the game viewing is at its best. The rains usually last from April to May then occur again in November when there are fewer tourists and vegetation flourishes. During February, wildebeest are calving, giving you a front row seat to the baby's first moments in the savannah.

Both countries are reputed for outstanding game viewing. The Great Migration is a wildlife spectacle, sometimes called The Greatest Show on Earth by safari enthusiasts, during which hundreds of wildebeest and other mammals head towards greener grazing pastures during East Africa's dry season. It is heavily dependent on the weather, specifically the rain which brings new vegetation upon which the wildebeest feed. Generally-speaking, herds are in the Serengeti from November to May. In May, as the grass dries up, herds begin the 500-mile migration north and by June they are in the greener plains of Kenya’s Maasai Mara. They usually stay here until October. From January on, they alternate between woodlands and plains, depending on the weather. In anticipation of the short rains—and the greener grasslands that come with it—the herds begin their trek down to the Serengeti. In November and December, they arrive to a flourishing green landscape where they stay until the cycle begins again.
The best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season (December– February and June - August) when conditions are especially good for trekking to view mountain gorillas. Game drives in the national parks are also fruitful during this time.
Wear neutral colored, lightweight clothing on your Uganda safari. Dress in layers and bring a warm sweater for morning and nighttime game drives. For gorilla trekking, bring a waterproof rain jacket, hiking boots, long socks, hiking pants, bug repellant, and a daypack. A sunhat and gardening gloves are also a good idea; the jungle is dense and thick.

When it comes to wildlife viewing, there are never any guarantees. There are no fences in the parks in Uganda and the gorillas are free to roam.
