From Nairobi to Tanzania

Starting in Nairobi you’ll head out for Tanzania driving a scenic route through the Masai country landscape. Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy views of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro as you approach your border destination.

Your first stop, Lake Manyara National Park, is a gem with highlights such as tree-climbing lions and great flocks of brilliant flamingos gathered along the lake. Although smaller in size than most reserves, this park is amazingly dense with large animals. You can’t miss the many elephant, giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest that inhabit this beautiful spot.

Then we’re off to the great Serengeti and on the way, we’ll make a must-see stop at Olduvai Gorge. It was at this site the earliest known human fossils were found. Indeed, walking the gorge you’ll see and feel the beginnings of humankind.

We move on to the seemingly endless expanse of Serengeti National Park. We’ll spend several days here at one of the premier wildlife watching spots in Africa, if not the world. The almost treeless grassland of the Serengeti plains reveals a vast display of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and impala, not to mention the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo.

Within the immense Serengeti lies the Ngorongoro Crater – a massive, intact volcanic caldera. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to tens of thousands of animals inhabiting the vast crater floor. We will descend to this rich, vibrant world for a day of intense wildlife viewing. Then later, when you think you’ve seen everything, we’ll head back up to a wondrous sunset at the crater rim.

On our final day, we’ll proceed to the town of Arusha to finish our five-day African safari. If you’d like to extend your vacation into a beach holiday, Arusha is the perfect jumping-off point to the sunny shores of Zanzibar.
