Step inside the Kijani Hotel, a Colonial gem located on Kenya’s Lamu Island. Engulfed in Swahili tradition and a blended architecture, this mansion offers an idyllic beach stay for guests looking for that smaller getaway destination. 

With only 11 elegant rooms on offer, a stay at Kijani House is truly intimate, with stunning views from a private balcony or terrace. The main area boasts a beautiful rooftop restaurant, serving fresh seafood sourced daily from local fishermen and a menu of international and traditional local foods. 

There is a comfortable sitting area and bar, and outside guests can enjoy two lovely swimming pools located in the gardens, flanked by palm trees and lush green grass. There are massage treatments on offer for guests seeking that little extra pampering and activities that include water activities from snorkeling to sunset cruises aboard a traditional Dhow boat, as well as cultural visits to nearby villages.

Location

Kijani Hotel is located in Shela Villa on Lamu Island on Kenya’s east coast. Flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta or Wilson Airports will take around one hour, where guests will be met and transferred by boat across to Kijani Hotel.

The 11 beautifully decorated bedrooms all have a balcony or terrace offering a garden, pool, or sea views. There are Standard Double rooms with a double or twin bed configuration or a Classic Double with a double or king bed configuration. 

There are ceiling fans, air-conditioning, a small living area, and mosquito netting over the bed. There are tea/coffee-making facilities plus a safe for guests to store their valuables, WiFi, and 24-hour room service. All rooms are en-suite boasting a shower, toilet, and vanity and modern bathroom amenities for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Game Viewing / Activities

Water activities such as windsurfing, kite surfing, wave boarding, snorkeling, and scuba diving are popular among guests. There is the option to enjoy a deep-sea fishing expedition and a boat trip to Manda Island. 

There are also excursions to the local villages around Lamu Island where visitors can learn about the rich culture of the locals. Lamu Old Town is two and a half miles away, Lamu Museum is two miles away and the interesting Takwa Prehistoric site is located six and a half miles away from Kijani Hotel.
