Tour Highlights:
Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru - Samburu Safari - 6 Days Safari Itinerary
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
We will pick you up early from your hotel or beach resort and transfer you to the Mombasa airport.
0800 hrs. Kenya Airways flight from Mombasa to Nairobi. During this one-hour flight, you’ll view the early morning sun lighting up the African plains.
0900 hrs. You’ll arrive at Nairobi where your guide will meet you.
In our Land Cruiser Jeep, we’ll set out over the highlands of central Kenya viewing the countryside dotted with local farms. This is also Masai country so keep an eye out for the herders in their bright distinctive garb.
This route takes us through the Great Rift Valley, and we’ll be sure to stop and view the dramatic towers and drops of the valley escarpment.
Deep golden savannahs will greet us at our arrival at the Masai Mara National Reserve. This is a vast scenic park, seemingly decorated with the iconic acacia trees of Africa.
You have arrived at a very special place. Not only is the Mara the most popular park in Kenya, it is also the best-known park in the world.
Why?
Perhaps because of the incredible density of wildlife set in a rich array of eco-systems. The park is also the home of the Great Migration from July to October. During these months, expect to see tens of thousands of migrating animals streaming into the park.
Our first of two nights in the reserve will be spent at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
This will be a full day of unlimited animal viewing throughout the park. The reserve is known for the highest density of wild animals in the region. So, you’ll be on the lookout for Africa’s “Big Five” – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.
But there are some 90 other mammals inhabiting these lands, so don’t be surprised to come upon impala, gazelle, cheetah, hyena, and so much more throughout your game drives.
You’ll normally see wildebeest and zebra in the Mara, but during migration season the park will be flooded with torrents of these foraging creatures, invading the reserve in their yearly cycle searching for sustenance.
If you’d like to meet the nearby Maasai villagers, your guide will be happy to arrange an optional visit.
For a truly remarkable safari, ask your guide about the optional early morning hot air balloon excursion over the park. You’ll witness the Mara coming alive in the dawn light creating unforgettable memories.
Our final night in the park at the accommodation of your choice.
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
The dawn is a special time in the Masai Mara, as the early morning light shines upon the savannah, bringing it and the animals to life. We won’t miss this moment as we take a pre-breakfast game drive to appreciate the wonder of this special park.
Later, we’ll embark on a final game drive, exiting the reserve for Lake Nakuru National Park.
Along the way, we’ll stop and admire the Rift Valley lakes of Naivasha and Elementaita, two high altitude bodies of water bordering Lake Nakuru.
We’ll arrive at Nakuru in the afternoon, in time for a game drive around the lake admiring the pelicans, ostriches and especially the fuchsia flamingoes, dotting the shoreline.
Lake Nakuru is an interesting blend of birdlife, endangered species like the Rothchild’s giraffe and Africa’s all-stars like lion and leopard.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
What to see at Lake Nakuru national park ……………………….
Flamingo ( Lesser and Greater ), White Rhino, Zebra, Waterbucks, waterfalls: Makali, unique vegetation about 550 different plant species, Mammals 56 different species and terrestrial birds numbering 450 species in total.
We’ll spend one night at Nakuru at your lodge or tented camp.
We’ve got lots to see and do today, so an early start makes sense. We’ll take a short game drive and bid farewell to Nakuru’s great varied flocks of birdlife.
Heading out over the frontier district, we’ll be taking our 4 x 4 by the edges of the Rift Valley escarpment through the most dramatic vistas of our safari.
We’ll also make a stop at beautiful Thompson’s Falls – a 74 m. (243 ft.) drop of the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Reaching Samburu National Reserve in the afternoon we’ll embark on the first of many game drives in this rugged but serene national park.
Meal Plan:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
What you may see at samburu game reserve …………..
We’ll spend two nights here at your choice of accommodation.
We will spend the entire day on game drives, exploring the semi-arid environment of this wildlife haven.
Much of our time will be along the Ewaso Nyiro River, the main source of water in this arid park. The river is a powerful draw for the thirsty animals depending on it for sustenance. Here we’ll be able to spot varieties such as the gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, oryx and the more common buffalo, zebra, hippo and elephant.
And we’ll keep a ready eye out for lion and the African leopard, known to frequent this spot.
Other wildlife also seen in the park include baboon, warthog, impala and the small, enchanting dik-dik.
Our final safari night. Enjoy the evening at the lodge or tented camp of your choice.
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We’ll take one more early morning game drive as we exit the park.
On the road to Nairobi, we’ll pass highlands and be greeted with the views of Mount Kenya, the tallest mountain in the country and the second highest in Africa.
Moving on, our drive will take us past the dense fields of coffee, tea, and pineapple plantations.
We will arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon and transfer to the airport.
Your driver/guide will make sure everything is in place for your flight back to Mombasa.
1830 hrs.: Depart Nairobi Airport for a one-hour flight.
1930 hrs.: Arrive at Mombasa airport.
We will meet you at Mombasa airport and bring you to your Kenya coast resort or hotel.
It’s been a whirlwind six days of sights, sound, and animals. We hope you enjoyed the adventure!
