Location
The Loisaba Conservancy is located in Kenya’s northern region of Laikipia. This region is rich in wildlife and breathtaking vistas. The Conservancy is located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, near the equator.

Loisaba Conservancy is 88.92 sq miles in size.
History
The Loisaba Conservancy was originally a cattle ranch that opened its gates to tourists in the 1970s. In 1977 the Ancilotto family leased the land to an American investor who, with a team of Kenyan conservationists, launched the Loisaba Conservancy. A Trust was formed for the local community who to this day continue to practice wildlife and wilderness conservation.

By Road
The drive from Nairobi is around 200 miles north and will take approximately six hours, traveling along the A104 highway.
By Air
Flying from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Loisaba Airstrip will take approximately one hour. Guests are then met and transferred by road to their respective accommodation.
Weather & Climate
The best time to visit the Loisaba Conservancy is during the dry season which falls between June and October, with the peak time to visit being July and August. The weather is cooler, the landscape naturally cropped and game viewing is at its best. The shorter rains fall between November and early January with the longer rains coming down between March and the end of May.
Avoiding Crowds
The parks and lodges fill up during the dry and cooler winter season which falls between June and August. Traveling to the Loisaba Conservancy just before or after these times will see fewer crowds in the Conservancy. Consider traveling in January and February when the short rains have ceased, bird life and animal births are marvelous to witness, with good pricing and more availability on offer.
Value for Money
As accommodation is located outside the Masai Mara National Reserve, accommodation options are limited. Guests are able to choose from well-priced options in a quieter area or ultra-luxury in a more private setting.
Popular Wildlife Sightings in the Loisaba Conservancy
Elephant sightings are incredible at the Loisaba Conservancy as the Conservancy serves as a migration corridor for them. Wild dogs are often spotted and there are over 260 bird species.
The Terrain
The landscape of the Loisaba Conservancy varies from vast grassy plains and undulating valleys to escarpments and cliffs. There are excellent viewpoints over the region with distant views of magical Mount Kenya.
Early morning and late afternoon game drives are conducted in the Loisaba Conservancy in 4×4 safari vehicles. Guided walks with a qualified guide are available to guests, giving the opportunity to experience the little treasures in nature, such as flora, fauna and intriguing anthills. For something a little different, guests can enjoy a horseback ride and even a camel ride.

Guests staying in the Loisaba Conservancy can enjoy bush walks and game drives, as well as cultural village visits nearby. There are horseback riding and fishing activities, as well as camel riding and mountain biking. Spend time perhaps with a dedicated anti-poaching team, meet the sniffer dogs Nanyokie and Memusi, and visit headquarters to learn more about how the team functions and the incredible job that they do in wildlife preservation.

The best way to get to Loisaba Conservancy is to take a short flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. Landing in the Loisaba Airstrip, the ride is a very short one to many properties. Driving from Nairobi will take around six hours.
Besides the incredible landscape and vistas, Loisaba Conservancy’s key focus on animal conservation and dedication to wildlife and wilderness protection is apparent. Animal sightings are wonderful in the Conservancy.
Elephants are abundant in Loisaba Conservancy and sightings of wild dog and prolific birdlife is a huge draw for visitors.
The Loisaba Conservancy is open between 8am and 6pm daily.
It is advised to pre-book your stay at Loisaba Conservancy. The minimal number of accommodations on offer means availability may be hard to come by if space is not pre-booked.
A 4×4 game drive or a walking safari with a qualified guide is the best way to experience Loisaba Conservancy. There is also the option to enjoy a horseback ride, camel ride and mountain biking.
Accommodation options at Loisaba Conservancy include the wonderful Loisaba Tented Camp with 12 tents only, the Loisaba Lodo Springs with eight private rooms that overlook Mt Kenya and the Loisaba Bush Camp and Star Beds, offering a spectacular overnight experience
There are no stand-alone restaurants near the Loisaba Conservancy, guests will dine in the restaurants and dining areas at their respective lodges or camps.
Cultural village visits, fishing, camel rides and mountain biking options are just some of the activities and attractions in the area. The Anti-Poaching organization is worth visiting.

The best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season (December– February and June - August) when conditions are especially good for trekking to view mountain gorillas. Game drives in the national parks are also fruitful during this time.

For gorilla trekking, bring a waterproof rain jacket, hiking boots, long socks, hiking pants, bug repellant, and a daypack. Be prepared to hike for multiple hours through uneven terrain at high altitude. It is advisable to train before any gorilla trekking trip by walking uphill, or better yet, by taking day hikes.
When it comes to wildlife viewing, there are never any guarantees. There are no fences in the parks in Uganda and the gorillas are free to roam. However, our expert guides and gorilla trackers have years of experience taking guests to see these magnificent creatures. They know their favorite spots to congregate and work closely with park officials each day to provide the best possible chance of seeing gorillas in the wild.
Most mountain gorillas in Uganda live at between 4,900 to 7,500 feet. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the country’s mountain gorillas, has a high point of 8,550ft.
