Tsavo East National Park is known as one of the largest parks in Kenya, named after the Tsavo River, which flows throughout the park. Safaris are incredibly popular in Tsavo East with vast, flat terrain that allows visitors to spot wildlife throughout the park, including the famous “Red Elephant”.
Accommodations range from classic safari lodges to small, intimate, or luxury camps. There are many options to choose from located centrally in the park which allows for optimal game viewing. There are even public camping sites as well.

Step inside a luxury safari at the stone-faced Voi Safari Lodge, an exquisite safari destination within Kenya’s popular Tsavo East National Park. The lodge boasts beautiful views over open savannas with water holes that see frequent wildlife come to drink, its location upon rocks and amid attractive gardens, prominently set within the wilderness. There is a tranquil swimming pool set amid stone paving and offering views over the Park and guests can enjoy the gym or, in contrast, a relaxing spa treatment.
The restaurant is large and spherical in shape, serving both incredible views and delicious meals. There is a relaxing lounge area and the lodge has three bars on site. The main bar is situated on the lodge’s terrace, the pool bar offering refreshing drinks next to refreshing waters and the Hyrax Bar on offer for private functions and conferences.
There are 53 modern safari rooms offering views over the Tsavo East National Park, neat in design and content, perfect for a night of rest after a day on safari. Guests can enjoy watching animals from the photo hide located at the lodge and find that perfect souvenir in the little gift shop. Sentrim Tsavo East is located in Tsavo East National Park. The waterhole in front of the camp is visited by elephants, buffaloes and other game.
Boasting 88 luxury rooms set above the ground and offering private views over the surrounding wilderness, the Voi Wildlife Lodge is a wonderful option to consider when planning a safari to Kenya’s Tsavo East National Park. The property is large, set out among a garden with views over tree-scattered plains, and offers excellent service throughout one’s stay.
The Reception is spacious with high, thatched, and beamed ceilings. The Tembo restaurant is spacious and open on the side, covered in thatch and offering individual dining tables, while the simple yet comfortable sitting area also opens up to an outside area, both overlooking a nearby watering hole.
Facilities at Voi Wildlife Lodge include beauty and massage treatments, the Spa Center equipped with five treatment rooms, a steam bath, and a hot tub. The modest Galana Crocodile Camp is located near the gates of the Tsavo East National Park. The Camp set out along the banks of the Galana River and offers a classic and stylish safari accommodation option in one of Kenya’s key safari locations.
There are 14 humble-in-design bungalows and 22 comfortable tents located at Galana Crocodile Camp, as well as a two-bedroom family house with spectacular views over the river. The main area of the Camp boasts a restaurant set up on a stone deck, under a thatch cover but open on the sides with views over the wonderful wilderness, while the lounge is small but comfortable with a bar presenting captivating views over the river.
The reception has two tranquil ponds on either side of the wooden walkway and a swimming pool that is inviting and refreshing, set out among trees and landscaped grass areas. The water hole is located nearby so there is a chance for guests to see animals coming to drink while they relax in between safari activities.
Located in a private wildlife sanctuary close to the Tsavo East National Park, the Ngutuni Safari Lodge represents a classic and modest safari lodge experience set against the Sagala Hills. Views across the 10,000 acres of wilderness can be enjoyed from the large deck of the restaurant and bar or from the private verandahs attached to each room.
Satao Camp has 20 tents, all e-suite, thoughtfully positioned to ensure a full view of the camps “own” watering hole.
The best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season (December– February and June - August) when conditions are especially good for trekking to view mountain gorillas. Game drives in the national parks are also fruitful during this time.
Wear neutral colored, lightweight clothing on your Uganda safari. Dress in layers and bring a warm sweater for morning and nighttime game drives. For gorilla trekking, bring a waterproof rain jacket, hiking boots, long socks, hiking pants, bug repellant, and a daypack. A sunhat and gardening gloves are also a good idea; the jungle is dense and thick.

However, it is always a good idea to take precautions on your safari, particularly when traveling through urban areas or in regions close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The trek to spot gorillas can be strenuous. It could take anywhere from two to eight hours to find and observe the gorillas, depending on the time of year. Be prepared to hike for multiple hours through uneven terrain at high altitude. It is advisable to train before any gorilla trekking trip by walking uphill, or better yet, by taking day hikes.
When it comes to wildlife viewing, there are never any guarantees. There are no fences in the parks in Uganda and the gorillas are free to roam. However, our expert guides and gorilla trackers have years of experience taking guests to see these magnificent creatures. They know their favorite spots to congregate and work closely with park officials each day to provide the best possible chance of seeing gorillas in the wild.
Most mountain gorillas in Uganda live at between 4,900 to 7,500 feet. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the country’s mountain gorillas, has a high point of 8,550ft.
