Discover an escape into nature unlike any other when staying at the andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, a destination unto itself. The kitchen at the Lodge is open-planned, allowing guests to watch delicious cuisine being created, and then dinner is served in a dining area set up in the main Lodge area, or on the privacy of the suite deck. There is a sparkling swimming pool where guests can unwind in between game drives, and a ‘gym-in-a-bag’ option for guests who wish to work out during their stay.
A small safari shop is on site where guests can look for that ideal souvenir, or guests can visit a local Maasai community during their stay. Nights are spectacular with an option of an open-vehicle night game drive, or simply to sit in the small comfortable sitting area or around the crackling campfire and enjoy a nightcap from the charming bar before retiring for the evening and doing it all again the following day.
AndBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is located in Tanzania’s Lake Manyara National Park, a three-and-a-half ‘game drive’ through the park to the Lodge. Guests can fly from Dar es Salaam Airport which will take approximately three hours, a 40-minute flight from Kilimanjaro Airport, or a 30-minute flight from Arusha Airport. If guests want to drive from Arusha, they will have a journey of around three and a half hours.
Nestled in the Mahogany trees in Lake Manyara National Park, nine Luxury Treehouse Suites rest on wooden stilts encompassed by branches, leaves, and an intimate nature-filled ambiance. There is one Family Suite which comprises two bedrooms, each en-suite, with one bathroom containing a bath and shower while the second bedroom’s bathroom is equipped with a shower only.
Each suite has a beautiful, dark wooden floor that flows out onto an outside deck, the doors opening wide so with canvas netting in place, guests can feel as if they are sleeping ‘outside’. A large four-poster bed in the suite is covered with mosquito netting and crisp, white linen on the beds.
There is a small, round table and two chairs set up on the deck, set up for guests who wish to dine in their room, or simply sit and listen to the night sounds or early morning nature calls. There is a chair in the room and a space for guests to hang their clothes, as well as a safe to store valuables during their stay. The suite has a min-bar and access to a butler service.
The en-suite bathroom is exquisite, with a toilet, vanity, bath, and shower, with bathroom amenities available for guests to enjoy during their stay.
Guests can enjoy the magnificent wildlife and wilderness that is Lake Manyara National Park, with animals ranging from buffalos, elephants, hippos, and zebras, to the unique ‘tree-climbing’ lions. Famous for its pink flamingos, spending time around the Lake is fantastic, with walking safaris on offer to show guests the incredible birdlife of which there are over 400 species, as well as the smaller wonders of the Park. Night game drives are possible in Lake Manyara National Park, a wonderful opportunity to witness nocturnal animals such as porcupine, civet and hippos grazing, not to mention the elusive leopard.
Other activities include a treetop-canopy tour, a guided bicycle ride to the local Mayoka Village for a cultural experience, or a tour into Mto Wa Mbu town for a half-day exposure to see local farming techniques and perhaps try some local ‘banana beer’ that is brewed there.
The best times to visit Tanzania are December through March or June through October during the dry seasons, when the game viewing is at its best. The rains usually last from April to May then occur again in November when there are fewer tourists and vegetation flourishes. During February, wildebeest are calving, giving you a front row seat to the baby's first moments in the savannah.

Both countries are reputed for outstanding game viewing. Tanzania’s jaw-dropping Mount Kilimanjaro, sweeping coffee plantations and the exotic island of Zanzibar make it unique from its northern neighbor, while Kenya's lush green landscapes make it a bit less tropical, climate-wise. The two countries are frequently combined into a single journey, given their proximity to each other and the fact that they are both locations for the must-see Great Migration. The Great Migration is a wildlife spectacle, sometimes called The Greatest Show on Earth by safari enthusiasts, during which hundreds of wildebeest and other mammals head towards greener grazing pastures during East Africa's dry season. It is heavily dependent on the weather, specifically the rain which brings new vegetation upon which the wildebeest feed. Generally-speaking, herds are in the Serengeti from November to May. In May, as the grass dries up, herds begin the 500-mile migration north and by June they are in the greener plains of Kenya’s Maasai Mara. They usually stay here until October. From January on, they alternate between woodlands and plains, depending on the weather. In anticipation of the short rains—and the greener grasslands that come with it—the herds begin their trek down to the Serengeti. In November and December, they arrive to a flourishing green landscape where they stay until the cycle begins again.
The best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season (December– February and June - August) when conditions are especially good for trekking to view mountain gorillas. Game drives in the national parks are also fruitful during this time.
Wear neutral colored, lightweight clothing on your Uganda safari. Dress in layers and bring a warm sweater for morning and nighttime game drives. For gorilla trekking, bring a waterproof rain jacket, hiking boots, long socks, hiking pants, bug repellant, and a daypack. A sunhat and gardening gloves are also a good idea; the jungle is dense and thick.

Be prepared to hike for multiple hours through uneven terrain at high altitude. It is advisable to train before any gorilla trekking trip by walking uphill, or better yet, by taking day hikes.
When it comes to wildlife viewing, there are never any guarantees. There are no fences in the parks in Uganda and the gorillas are free to roam. However, our expert guides and gorilla trackers have years of experience taking guests to see these magnificent creatures. They know their favorite spots to congregate and work closely with park officials each day to provide the best possible chance of seeing gorillas in the wild.
Most mountain gorillas in Uganda live at between 4,900 to 7,500 feet. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the country’s mountain gorillas, has a high point of 8,550ft.
