4-DAY ZANZIBAR FLY-IN SAFARI TO NYERERE PARK
4 Days 3 Nights
Game Drives, A River Safari, and Hot Springs

Private Tour

Starts Zanzibar/Ends Zanzibar – We’ll pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to nearby Abeid Karume International Airport for your morning flight to Arusha.

Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized open-sided Natural World 4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Cooler Box, long-range high-frequency radio, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.

This four-day adventure is a serious departure from the beach but one that will place you on all kinds of fascinating safaris. And not just at any wildlife reserve – Nyerere National Park is the largest in Tanzania and one of the biggest in the world.

Its landscape is immense, 30,893 sq km (11,928 sq mi), twice the size of the Serengeti, larger than some 70 countries! All that space holds unbelievable numbers of wildlife – imagine over 4,000 lions, 35,000 zebras, and 40,000 hippos – the largest hippo population in the world.

But you won’t find lots of other safari-goers at Nyerere; the park is fairly new and not as well known as those reserves in northern Tanzania, so relative to its size you’ll find lots more wildlife here than humans.

Bushwalk With a Bushman

Your four-day journey features several types of safaris. Of course, you’ll go on game drives in your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. But we’ve also arranged for a bushwalk with a local guide, who grew up in this region and well knows this land.

This walking safari is a relaxed experience where you’ll be close to the birds, plants, flowers, and smaller game. And it is possible to view some of the larger animals like elephants and buffalo, sometimes even lions at a distance.

A River Cruise

Ever been on a boat safari? You’ll enjoy this new perspective on the park and its wildlife as we sail on the great Rufiji River, the lifeblood of Nyerere and the country’s largest river.

This is a wonderful setting for spotting the plentiful hippos and crocodiles populating the river banks. But that’s not all. The birdlife is active in the park and along the river; you’ll be looking for Fish-eagle, heron, ibis, storks, pelicans, kingfishers, and more.

Plus the Rufiji River is a natural draw for much of the park’s wildlife during the dry season from June through October. As you sail, look for elephants, giraffes, antelope, buffalo, zebras, and more quenching their thirst at the water’s edge.

Hot Springs

You’ll love the unlimited game drives over the days of your safari but we’ve also planned an unusual rest stop to change up the pace. We will head to the Beho Beho Hills where we will settle into the awaiting hot springs.

While soaking up the rich thermal waters, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Beho Beho plains out in the distance. What a wonderful way to wrap up our safari.

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Let the adventure begin! From your Zanzibar hotel, our driver will pick you up for the transfer to nearby Abeid Karume International Airport. Take-off time is at   7:30 am for the one-hour flight, and you’ll land at Nyerere at 8:30 am.

Zanzibar – Nyerere Park/Selous Game Reserve

1 Hour Flight

Stepping from your plane, you’ll spot your Natural World Kenya Safaris driver/guide and your waiting 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Then we’ll head to your accommodation to get you settled.

This is going to be a very active day starting with exciting close-up views of the park’s flora, birds, and animals on your guided walking safari.

Your guide is a local bushman who was born and raised in these fields and forests. Under his calm and knowing guidance you will experience the sensory

sights and sounds of this unique experience. The walk will include breakfast or lunch.

Next, we’ll visit a nearby Maasai village and meet these indigenous people, get a chance to visit their homes and learn about their pastoral lifestyle. You may want to purchase a beaded piece of their handiwork as a memento of your visit.

Our busy day continues with another kind of safari – a river cruise on the largest river in Tanzania, the Rufiji. As we sail in the late afternoon, we are certain to spot hippos and crocodiles on the river banks, along with an assortment of wildlife. Look for waterbuck, antelope, zebra, giraffe, baboon, and monkeys. Sometimes you’ll even spot one or more elephants drinking or bathing.

After our sail, we’ll head back to our accommodation for some dinner and rest.

We will spend our evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll be up early to savor the soft morning light and the park coming to life in the new day.

This will be a time of unlimited game drives and we’ll be tracking for the big cats, along with elephants, rhinos, and buffalos.

Nyerere hums with the rhythms of its various wildlife so you’ll also be spotting for hartebeests, warthog, eland, waterbucks, hyenas, bushbucks, sable antelope, and monkeys.

Another unique, endangered, but active species within the park are the African wild dog. These canines travel in packs and their numbers in the park reach about 1,300, one-third of the total world population.

We will spend our second evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You may hear the early morning calls, songs, and chirps of the park’s profusion of birdlife; over 440 bird species make their home in these fields, forests, lakes, and rivers.

We’ll have breakfast and head out for more game drives. Talk to your driver/guide about visiting different areas of the park and what animals you might spot there.

After lunch, we’ll travel to the Beho Beho area for a special treat: The hot springs on the slopes of the Beho Hills will give us time to relax, enjoy the warm mineral baths and provide us with expansive views out across the plains.

We will spend our third evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch

It’s our last day on safari so let’s enjoy the morning air as we breakfast, with the sights of the great park surrounding us.

Then it’s time to return to the airstrip for our flight back to Zanzibar. The plane takes off at 8:40 am for the 50-minute trip, landing at 9:30 am.

Stepping from your light aircraft you’ll spot your Natural World Kenya Safaris driver, who will bring you back to your hotel or resort.

Planes, boats, 4 x 4 Jeeps – this has been a rich assortment of safari experiences. Not to mention all the wildlife you were able to spot. We hope you take away many beautiful memories of your time with us. And we hope to see you soon. Everyone at Natural World Kenya Safaris appreciates and thanks you for your kind participation in our four-day fly-in adventure.
