5-DAY ZANZIBAR FLY-IN SAFARI TO NYERERE PARK
5 Days 4 Nights
Our Biggest Safari To The Park – With All Activities

Private Tour

Starts Zanzibar/Ends Zanzibar – We’ll pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to nearby Abeid Karume International Airport for your morning flight to Arusha.

Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized open-sided Natural World 4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Cooler Box, long-range high-frequency radio, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.

Here’s our most complete safari to Nyerere National Park – Five days of game drives throughout Tanzania’s biggest park with wildlife in numbers that are unimaginable in other reserves – 4,000 lions, 35,000 zebras, 250,000 impalas!

The scope of this beautiful park with its miombo woodlands and vast network of rivers, lakes, and marshes is the perfect home for such massive amounts of animals. Your five-day safari will give you lots of time to absorb this wonderland of habitats and all the big game it supports.

Another bonus of this newly formed park: it lies toward the south of Tanzania, far removed from the country’s popular northern safari circuit. This means fewer tourists and lots more of the park for yourself. Plus, the wildlife is not as used to human presence which makes for a deeper natural experience. Ready to learn more?

Beho Beho Hot Springs

Besides lots of exciting game drives, our second day on safari will bring a special surprise. In the scenic Beho Beho hills, we’ll head up the slopes to unwind in a natural hot springs for some relaxing downtime.

From our perch in the hills, we’ll enjoy broad expansive views of across the picturesque plains into the distance.

We’ll Walk Gently on the Land

Our five-day adventure to Nyerere will find us taking several types of safaris. On day three we will go on a bushwalk – our guide? – a native bushman who intimately knows the flora, fauna, birds, and terrain of this rich landscape.

He will lead you on a personal, up-close safari walk, sharing his knowledge of the plants and animals that we spot.

We’ll next enjoy lunch at our accommodation and then partake in a cultural moment as we visit a nearby Maasai village or “Boma”. We’ll get to meet these pastoral people, see their homes, and learn about their lifestyles.

A Sailing Safari

Ready for yet another type of safari? How about a boat safari sailing on the park’s great Rufiji River, the largest river in Tanzania.

You’ll glide beneath the palms, along the river’s banks, spotting the rich aquatic life of hippos and crocodiles, plus baboons and monkeys in the trees.

The colorful bird life you’ll find here includes kingfisher, heron, eagles, storks, vultures, and the pink-backed pelican.

As the Rufiji River is the main source of water for Nyerere’s thirsty wildlife, you’ll also be looking for giraffes, antelope, buffalo, zebras, and sometimes elephants. All of this and the colors of the setting sun.

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Ready for five awesome days of adventure? Every journey begins with a single step. In this case, stepping from your Zanzibar hotel, where our driver will bring you to nearby Abeid Karume International Airport for your 7:30 am take off. The easy and scenic one-hour flight will have you landing at Nyerere Park at 8:30 am.

Zanzibar – Nyerere Park/Selous Game Reserve

1 Hour Flight

At the airstrip, you’ll meet your Natural World Kenya Safaris driver/guide, your friend, and host for the next five days. With a big greeting of “Jambo!”, he will usher you to a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and you’re off to settle in at your local accommodation.

This will be a day of busy game drives tracking for the park’s abundance of wildlife like waterbuck, hartebeest, eland, bushbuck, hyenas, antelope, warthog, impala monkeys, and wildebeest.

But we’ll also be on the lookout for the big cats – lion, leopard, and cheetah. Plus the other large game for which the park is known – buffalo, elephant, and rhino.

We’ll take a mid-morning coffee break, amidst this scenic and natural setting. Then, we’re on for more game tracking.

Lunch will also be out in the bush, with tables already set up for your mid-day repast. You’ll enjoy your meal with the sights and sounds of the wildlife and birds, to accompany you.

We will fill our afternoon with more exploration of the park’s pretty landscapes looking for wildlife, large and small. By late afternoon, you’ll be ready to take a nice dinner break.

We will spend our evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our safari morning will be filled with the soft light of the new day and the songs and sounds of the wildlife emerging from the night.

After breakfast, we’ll start exploring new areas to discover more big game.

Of special note: the park is home to one of the world’s largest populations of African wild dogs, about 1,300. Moving in packs, you’ll have good opportunities to spot this endangered species, which can reach speeds of up to 44 miles per hour.

After lunch, we’ll head to the Beho Beho Hills for an unusual safari break – some relaxation time in the mineral-rich hot springs up on the slopes. From this luxurious spot, you’ll enjoy lovely views of the Beho Beho plains below.

We will spend our second evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today will be a day of rich experiences. We’ll start with a guided bushwalk with a local bushman, an expert in this terrain. He will guide you to close-up discoveries of the land, the flora, the birds, and the wildlife. There is nothing quite as natural and sensory as exploring the park in this intimate manner.

Expect to see small game and perhaps some larger species like elephant, giraffe, and buffalo.

After lunch, at our accommodation, we’ll visit a local Maasai village or “boma”. We’ll get to meet the families, see their homes, and maybe even take part in their famous jumping dance.

Then our busy day continues with a sailing safari on the Nyerere’s Rufiji River, the main artery of the park. This late afternoon sail will have us spotting hippos and crocodiles along the river, plus a variety of colorful birdlife such as storks, pelicans, and kingfishers.

We m  ay also spot larger game coming to the river to drink, like antelope, zebra, giraffe, monkey, and baboon. And sometimes elephants can be spotted, taking their evening bath.

After this active day, we’ll head back to our accommodation for dinner.

We will spend our third evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch

Get ready for a day of unlimited game drives. Perhaps there’s an area of the park you haven’t yet explored. Please talk with your driver/guide about areas you’d like to visit.

We will also be treated to another luxurious timeout at the Beho Beho Hot Springs. A very pampered way to wrap up our safari.

We will spend our fourth evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch

Hard to believe but it’s our last safari morning already. Perhaps we’ll do a short game drive just before or after breakfast for some last wildlife spotting

Then we’re off to the airstrip for our 8:40 am flight back to Zanzibar. We’ll have you landing at 9:30 am with plenty of time for the beach.

As you deplane you’ll spot your Natural World Kenya Safaris driver, who will be happy to bring you back to your hotel or resort.

Five big days filled with all kinds of safaris, incredible numbers and varieties of wildlife, and rich cultural moments. We hope you had as much fun on our biggest Nyerere safari as we did.
