Infamous man-eating lions, red dust elephants, and Masai giraffes – the descriptions of the wildlife in this renowned park are the stuff of legends. All of it fitting for a park known for its wild, rugged, appeal. This adventurous journey couldn’t be more different than your day at the beach… but that’s what makes Tsavo so fascinating.

We will start our safari early to give you plenty of time in the park. We’ll soak up the early golden light of an African sunrise as our group travels to the park. Everyone gets their own window seat so you’ll have clear views as the park and its bountiful wildlife come into view.

The Unusuals

We know you’ve come on safari to see the lions and the elephants. The Tsavo Lions have two claims to fame. The males are a unique sub-species that don’t sport the usual lion’s mane. But also, stories of their ferocity have been passed down for generations. At one time they were even known as “man-eaters.”

The elephants have also achieved their own place of fame. Giving off a rosy glow, they sport a rather unique complexion. In truth, they like to roll in the park’s red oxide soil, “painting” themselves with a layer of rouge.

On our safari day in the park, we’ll also be on the lookout for more “unusuals” like ostrich, buzzards, and baboons. Plus, we’ll be tracking for other big cats, the park’s cheetahs and leopards.

Unlike some reserves, Tsavo East is large but not overly touristed – expect to enjoy the park minus the crowds of tourists. This busy dawn-to-dusk safari will keep you and your fellow adventurers active and engaged. So come ready for a full day of exploration.
