Tarangire National Park Day Tour

Daily Private Tour in 4x4 jeep

An Africa Safari of Epic Lions and Landscapes

Starting from/returning to your Arusha area hotel, private residence, or the airport. We’ll pick you up at 7:00 am for a full-day safari in the comfort of a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep.

Tarangire National Park is a quiet surprise. Sometimes overlooked for the better-known parks, you’ll find the second-highest concentration of wildlife of any spot in Tanzania. Check out these numbers: over 3,000 elephants and more than 700 lions roam Tarangire’s fascinating landscapes.

This is an almost mystical reserve filled with dramatic stands of bizarre baobab trees and giant termite mounds. And yet, with its active populations of wildlife, the park projects a vibe of quiet and calm. A day spent here on your Africa Safari is one of fantastic visual displays tempered with the easy rhythms grounded in the natural world.

Don’t Miss This Wildlife

While the park boasts the second-highest concentration of wildlife in the country, there is an exception to that – during the summer months of the dry season, you’ll find here the greatest concentration of elephants in the world. Besides lions, we’ll be tracking for leopards and cheetahs as well. Even more plentiful: great herds of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, antelope, and over 450 species of birds.

Some consider Tarangire to be the best spot for birdwatching in Tanzania.

The Mighty Baobab

Perhaps competing with the park’s overflowing herds of elephants are the giant and unusual baobab trees. With their thick root-like branches, they appear as if the immense tree was ripped from the earth and planted upside down… as also reflected in local legend.

These trees are imposing – as tall as 30 m (98 ft) tall and some are 1000 years old or more. And in a fitting connection, the giant elephants of the park, enjoy munching on the bark of the great baobab.

Termite Mounds and Mongoose Homes

More unusual surprises await us at Tarangire like the great humps of termite mounds rising from the plains. These unique homes are built by some of the smallest wildlife in the park but leave a more distinctive legacy than any other. When the big mounds are abandoned by the tiny insects, in an act of natural recycling, the dwarf mongoose moves in, making the structure its new home.

You’ll appreciate these special landscapes, the dense wildlife, and the untouristed qualities of Tarangire National Park on our special one-day safari.

Tour Highlights:

  • Great numbers of elephants
  • Unusual baobab trees
  • Immense herds of zebra and wildebeest
  • Colorful birdlife – over 500 species
