The Masai Mara… there’s something about the name that brings up images of great sweeping plains, proud stalking lions and thundering herds of wildebeests. This is the crown jewel of Kenya’s wildlife parks. It’s home to the greatest animal migration on the planet and known for its incredible richness of game in Africa’s most diverse eco-system. No one who visits the Mara is untouched by its wonder.

There are two ways to reach this magnificent location – you can drive 5–6 hours overland or you can take an easy flight from Nairobi in under 1 hour. Flying is the most convenient, comfortable way to make the most of your holiday time. We’ll bring you to the airport in Nairobi, making sure you’re settled on your flight.

Then, enjoy the vast panoramas of Kenya from above. At the Mara airstrip, you’ll be picked up and brought to your lodge or camp. You only have to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is famous for its abundance of Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. On your game drives these great plains will also offer zebra, Thompson’s gazelle, cheetah and countless wildebeest. Plus, many other species of land and water animals such as hippo and crocodiles.

Nairobi – Masai Mara

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

You’ll begin your safari with an early pickup from your hotel, residence, the Nairobi airport, or the place of your choosing.

7:00 hrs. – A representative of Natural World Kenya Safaris will collect you for the brief trip to Wilson Airport. There, you’ll board your approximately one-hour scenic flight to the Masai Mara.

Enjoy your first sights of the dramatic Kenyan landscape with views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the towering cliffs bordering the Great Rift Valley.

Mid-morning you’ll touch down at the Mara airstrip, amidst the golden hills and signature acacia trees.

You’ll be met by your Natural World guide in a 4 x 4 open-top safari Jeep. Hop in for your first quick game drive as you are brought to your accommodation to settle in and get ready for lunch.

You can make plans with your guide as to your first big safari. The Mara is the richest ecosystem in the region with over 95 mammal species. There are plenty of big cats here along with imposing grazers – elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and buffalos.

If you are here during the season of the Great Migration (July – October) you’ll be treated to the greatest movement of animals on the planet. At the Mara River uncountable herds of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles flood across from the Serengeti on their yearly trek in search of food.

During your two-day Mara adventure, you get to set the pace and schedule for your game viewing. Explore as much or as little as you choose – it’s your safari.

Note: For those guests staying at conservancies who wish to travel to the Mara triangle area to view the Great Migration river crossings, there is an $80 per person surcharge.

After a busy day discovering the Mara, you’ll settle back at your safari lodge or tented campground for dinner and relaxation.

Masai Mara – Nairobi

Meal Plan: Breakfast 

We’ll get up early to catch the dawn and pack in as much animal viewing as possible. The morning light creates a peaceful atmosphere for both safari-goers and the wildlife as it steps into the new day.

Breakfast follows at your accommodation. Enjoy the sounds and sights of the park all around you.

Soon it’s time to hop back into your Jeep. You’ll get another bonus game drive as you head to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi.

You’ll take off from the airstrip late morning for your return flight with more scenic views of Kenya (and Tanzania) stretching out below.

Touchdown at Wilson Airport will be at about 12:45 hrs. where you’ll be met by Natural World Kenya Safaris personnel for the transfer back to your hotel, residence, or place of your choosing.
