The highest number of black rhinos in East Africa. The only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat. This is the legacy and fascination of Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary. But there’s so much more to see in this private reserve. All of Africa’s Big Five are here, just a short drive from Nairobi. In just 2 days you’ll have opportunities to experience large and small wildlife – the common animals, the unusual and even the endangered. This short African safari is easily arranged and can even be a spur of the moment holiday.

On route to the sanctuary, we’ll cross the equator and take in the many coffee, tea, and pineapple plantations lining our way. Of special note, look for snow-capped Mt. Kenya, rising in the distance – the highest peak in the country and the second-highest in Africa.

Variety is the special calling at Ol Pejeta. Where else can you see unique and unusual species like Grevy’s zebra, bat-eared fox, reticulated giraffe, white-tailed mongoose, and the black-fronted duiker? And the big predators are here as well – at least six prides of lions, plus cheetahs and the often-elusive leopard.

You’ll enjoy the scenic variety of the park’s habitats of grasslands, bush, riverine, and swamp, and the diverse wildlife they support. In all, this is a colorful sanctuary filled with immense wildlife and viewing opportunities. But should you have your favorites, just let us know and we’ll personalize your experience.

All-Inclusive. Your 2-day Ol Pejeta safari includes park entrance fees, game drives, accommodations and meals. Natural World Kenya Safaris always offers a choice of accommodations. Depending on your budget and style choose from economy, comfort or luxury safari lodges or tented camps.

Your Guide. For your 2–day Ol Pejeta journey, you’ll be guided, hosted and looked after by your own experienced driver/guide.

NAIROBI – OL-PEJETA (220km: Approx: 4 Hours)

Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner

07:30 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel or Location.

We’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep for the Ol Pejeta Sanctuary. We’ll be traveling through Laikipia County toward the Aberdare/Mt. Kenya area, passing numerous farms along the way.

We’ll stop at coffee and tea plantations for a closer look and time permitting a local market.

Our route takes us directly across the equator and we’ll take a moment to stop and enjoy this unique spot, straddling the hemispheres.

At Ol Pejeta you’ll be amazed by the diversity of wildlife. Endangered rhinos plus the Big Five are all here as well as giraffe, hippo, impala, gazelle, zebra, jackal, hyena… even monkey and baboon.

This is also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within the reserve. It’s a place where rescued chimps are cared for and given free rein within their natural habitat. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can observe these playful and intelligent primates.

The sanctuary also features an endangered species enclosure. It’s big enough to go on a game drive and within its boundaries, you’ll spot rhinos and other rare animals like Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest.

You may want to take advantage of an optional visit to the local tribespeople, the Maasai. At their village, you’ll get to meet these indigenous people and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Just ask your guide to set up a personalized tour.

You’ll spend the night in your choice of an Ol Pejeta safari lodge or tented camp.

OL-PEJETA – NAIROBI (220km: Approx: 4 Hours)

We’ll be up with the monkeys, the birds and whoever else we meet as the morning light spreads over the sanctuary.

Later, we’ll enjoy breakfast at our accommodation and then continue tracking big game and perhaps some unusual sightings like the packs of wild African dogs known to inhabit the reserve.

We’ll make plans for lunch and then a final game drive as we head back to Nairobi.
