Nairobi – Masai Mara game reserve ( 265 km – Approx. 5-6 hrs)

Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

0730hrs: You shall be collected from your Nairobi hotel or Nairobi airport (Nairobi airport pick up depends on your arrival flight time)

Proceed to the Masai Mara game reserve -Kenya’s and Africa’s finest wildlife reserve.

On day 1 your driver/guide will swing by your hotel or location of choice at 7:30 to begin the adventure. We’re off to the Masai Mara, perhaps the most famous park in the world and certainly the most popular park in Kenya.

Why so popular? It could be because of the incredible density of wildlife here. Or, because the “Big Five” and over 90 other mammals move over these acacia accented plains. Or it might be the site of nature’s mightiest display of survival as millions of wildebeest and zebra storm into the reserve in a mighty procession called the Great Migration.

In this environment, we’ll enjoy unlimited game viewing and journey down to the Mara River, site of the crossing. This is where the migrating herds enter the Mara from the neighboring Serengeti. We’ll also be watching for hippo and crocodile, lying beneath the murky waters.

To experience the Mara to the fullest, you can take an optional hot air balloon safari over the park. And closer to the ground, visit one of the local villages to meet and learn about the indigenous Maasai people. Just ask your guide for details.

Overnight at your Masai Mara safari lodge or tented camp.

Masai mara game reserve – full day

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today shall be a game viewing extravaganza!

Masai Mara Game reserve remains the most exciting wildlife eco-system in the Natural world.

The reserve hosts the highest and most varied concentration of wild animals than any other wildlife park in the region.

The scenic appeal of the tree studded savannah plains, the moderate climate and diversity of wild game species makes it a one stop shop for game viewing activities.

We shall traverse the Masai Mara reserve on a full day of unlimited game viewing encountering the big five and more of the lesser game.

We shall visit the Mara river as we watch hippos & crocodiles or maybe the great migration (July – October)

Other options at the Masai mara

Overnight shall be at your Masai Mara safari lodge / tented camp.

Masai Mara to lake Nakuru (290 km – Approx. 6-7 Hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After a last morning game drive in the Masai Mara, we’re back on the road, headed to Lake Nakuru Park. We’ll stop for lunch and take breaks on the way, arriving at Lake Nakuru in the afternoon.

Then it’s your choice of what you’d like to see first – the special rhino sanctuary, home to black and white rhinos; the park’s acacia forest, habitat of impala and waterbuck; or the lake itself where we may see hundreds, and sometimes thousands of bright pink flamingoes.

We’ll find other birdlife here as well, and we’ll be spotting for heron, kingfisher and eagle. Plus, the park may also provide us with memories of Rothschild’s giraffe and maybe lion, leopard and cheetah.

Overnight at your lake Nakuru safari lodge / tented camp.

What you may  see at Lake Nakuru national park …….

Flamingo ( Greater and Lesser ), White Rhino, Black Rhino, Waterbucks, unique vegetation about 550 species waterfalls: Makalia.

Lake Nakuru  – Lake Naivasha & Hell’s gate

It’s just a hop over to Lake Naivasha, and after lunch, we’ll set sail for a water safari over this high-altitude fresh-water lake. You’ll enjoy a relaxing cruise past the aquatic life, pelicans and local hippos not far off. Over at the shore wave to the buffalo, impala and waterbuck as they drink from this popular watering hole.

Moving on, we’ll sample another safari – a guided walking tour on nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. This private island preserve hosts an enchanting mix of birdlife, waterbuck, zebra and gazelle. You may also come across hippo and hyena.

Now for our very different kind of safari – the bicycle kind. We head over to Hell’s Gate National Park – a unique spot characterized by cliffs, canyons and the eerie sight of rising steam from geothermal activity below. Hop on your bike as we pedal close to zebra, giraffe and grazing buffalo.

Overnight at your Lake Naivasha resort

What you may do at Lake Naivasha ………

Lake Naivasha  – Amboseli (350 km – Approx. 5-6 Hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It’s a long but relaxed drive to Amboseli with stops for food and to enjoy the many vistas of the Great Rift Valley escarpment towering above us. We’ll arrive at Amboseli in the afternoon. You’ll know you’re here by the park’s unmistakable feature – the towering mass of great Mt. Kilimanjaro spread before us like a painting in the sky. As evening approaches, we might even get lucky enough to see the mountain’s snow-capped summit revealed as the clouds part.

A short game viewing drive with possible views of the Mount Kilimanjaro peaks at Amboseli -Weather permitting

Amboseli National Park

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Our time here will be spent on relaxed game drives. The park is small and the vegetation sparse which only makes it easier to spot the wildlife. However, one species you’ll have no trouble finding is the free-range elephant. The park is famous for long parades of these imposing pachyderms and you’ll enjoy the sight of them marching before Mt. Kilimanjaro like the regal creatures they are.

Overnight shall be at your safari lodge/ tented camp.

Amboseli – Tsavo west (100 km – approx. 2 Hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Short morning game viewing drive is scheduled at the Amboseli this morning.

Now it’s a relatively short drive to Tsavo West, home to the Tsavo lion, a rhino sanctuary, giraffe, impala and the dik-dik. This is an attractive park with beckoning green hills and imposing volcanic ridges.

Near the Chyulu Hills, we’ll come upon the unexpected Mzima Springs, fed by thousands of gallons of crystalline water pouring into this palm accented oasis. Look for hippos, crocodiles and other big game drawn here for sustenance.

Overnight shall be at your Tsavo west safari lodge or tented camp.

What you may  do / see  at Tsavo west National park ……

Leopard, Rhino, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Elephants, Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Mzima springs hippo and exotic fish watching, volcanoes, lava flows.

Tsavo West – Tsavo East National Park

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Game viewing drives at the Tsavo West with a stop at the Mzima springs.

We’ll continue our game viewing as we journey to Tsavo East, our final park. This is the largest and one of the oldest reserves in Kenya. It’s a wild, rugged space filled with the “Big Five” plus a supporting cast of zebra, giraffe and over 500 species of birds.

Of note are the red-dust elephants. You can’t miss these enormous red-coated giants, coming from their dirt bath in the red-oxide soil.

So there we have it – nine very full days of game drives and all types of safaris, enjoying the sight of thousands of nature’s wildlife creatures in varied habitats. But we’ll have even more park viewing ahead as we make our way to the Kenya coast.
